Wondering how to increase bone density without taking drugs?
Bone density doesn’t seem like something that most people have to worry about. When you hear the term “bone density”, most people think about having osteoporosis. But the reality is that everyone, both males and females, reach peak bone density at age 30. After that, we are all losing our bone density at about 2-3% percent each year. In fact, females lose it at about 4-6% after menopause.
It’s not until people’s bone loss reaches the point that they have osteoporosis do they take the steps to correct the issue, and at that point, most people think that they can only fix the problem by taking drugs that are prescribed. The problem with the drugs are the highly negative side effects which are widely documented and cause many orthopedic physicians to discourage the use of those drugs.
If you are thinking “if the drugs are not my best option, then what can I do,” you are not alone. Most people don’t know that there is actually a natural and highly effective alternative, and that is exactly what we are going to look at in this article.
How to increase bone density without taking drugs?
It turns out there is a natural way to increase bone density that was discovered in 1892 and it is covered under a scientific law called Wolff’s Law, which is still taught in medical schools to this day. What Wolff’s Law states is that when you apply a stimulus to bones, this creates an adaptation to the bone by triggering two cells within the trabecula of the bone, osteoclasts and osteoblasts. Osteoclasts are cells that breakdown old bone tissue and osteoblasts are cells that form new bone tissue. This natural process of breaking down old bone tissue and building new bone tissue is called osteogenesis.
Now that we have covered the science behind natural bone modelling that was discovered over 100 years ago, let’s come back to the 21st century.
What Wolff did not discover in 1892 was how much force you have to load through a bone to cause the bone modelling process. In 2012, there was a study conducted in the U.K. and they actually discovered the exact amount of force that must be loaded specifically through the hip in order to cause bone growth in the hip bone. The reason the study focused on the hip bone specifically is because of the high mortality rate for people over the age of 65 who fall and break a hip. Studies have estimated that the mortality rate is nearly 79% within 1-year of the hip fracture.
The study found that a minimum of 4.2 multiples of body weight (MOB) is the minimum dose response for triggering osteogenesis in the hips.
That’s right, if you weigh 200 pounds, you must load 820 pounds through your lower limbs and hip joint to trigger osteogenesis in the hip. Sounds pretty incredible, right? I’ll admit, that is incredible. When I first heard that figure, I thought “well how am I going to do that [safely]?”
Turns out, you can. There is osteogenic loading technology that was invented specifically for this reason. With this proprietary technology, you can load the required levels of force through each region of your body to trigger osteogenesis. This equipment makes it possible for people of all ages to work on their bone health and potentially slow or even reverse bone aging. Of course, results vary by person and are dependent on each individual person’s health and efforts, but what this technology does is give everyone a natural option to safely implement a complete fracture prevention strategy.
OsteoStrong is the world’s leading osteogenic loading company with over 100 centers around the world. At any of their centers, you can find members safely loading high multiples of body weight on a daily basis. Some of the member results are astounding.
At our center here in Mobile, Alabama, we have seen multiple members who have increased their bone density by over 20% year-over-year in their DXA scans.
While bone density is certainly the focus of the equipment, there are a lot of other health benefits that can be achieved through the program. Many members see significant increase in functional strength. Just in our center alone, we have members who have increase their strength by over 600% in a year. Yet another number I wouldn’t have believed, but luckily, the members’ performance is tracked in real-time on the machines and the data is compared across each and every session. So members see their weekly and total improvements every time they come in.
If you are wondering about whether or not osteogenic loading is for you, there really are only a handful of contraindications and the only physical capabilities you need are to be cleared for physical activity and be at least 4’10” tall.
Contraindications:
- Muscular dystrophy
- Unmedicated hypertension
- In your third trimester of pregnancy
